Ajax man arrested in Toronto carjacking

An Ajax man is one of three suspects arrested following a carjacking in Toronto recently.  Nickay Anthony Smythe, 24, and two others are each facing four charges in the incident.

An Ajax man was one of three people arrested following a carjacking robbery in Toronto.

On Wednesday, April 20, Toronto police went to the area of ​​Finch Avenue West and Midland Avenue after a report that a car had been stolen.

A man was standing outside his Mercedes G Wagon while it was parked in a parking lot, Toronto police said.

Three men got out of a Hyundai Santa Fee and approached the victim, with one suspect grabbing the victim and demanding his car keys.

A second suspect pulled out a handgun and threatened the victim, police said.

After getting the key, the three fled the scene in both vehicles.

Officers at the scene began to track the victim’s vehicle, which had been equipped with a GPS device.

York Regional Police were contacted and helped track the stolen vehicle using its helicopter. York police, with help from the Ontario Provincial Police, were then able to find and stop both vehicles and take the three men into custody.

Police said officers found a replica handgun inside a vehicle.

Nickay Anthony Smythe, 24, of Ajax, along with a 21 year old and an 18 year old, both from Toronto were arrested and each charged with robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent, conspiracy to commit an indictable offense and possession of property obtained bycrime.

All three were held for bail hearings.
