From taking a bullet for their owner to saving them from drowning, dogs really are man’s best friend.
Now, a guard dog has the internet in hysterics after scaring off two teenage intruders trying to rob his owner’s house.
Caught on CCTV and shared on TikTok by user sumwatkewt on June 21, the pooch’s surprise attack was terrifying for the intruders but hilarious to those watching at home. (No teenagers were harmed in the making of this video.)
“Here they come, some naughty naughty kids come to rob our house,” said her son Issac in the clip. “At 5.13 in the f****** morning.”
In the video, a teenager can be seen sneaking into the family’s garden, while another keeps watch.
“Sneaky sneaky,” said sumwatkewt as the youth slowly opens the front gate. “What is he looking for?”
Out of nowhere, Belgian shepherd Loki appears and heads straight for the intruder. The two youths run for their lives, with Loki close behind.
“Off he f****** goes,” says Issac. “And there goes Loki straight after them. Don’t worry, Loki came back.”
The intruders left so fast, they didn’t even close the gate, which Issac said was “rude.”
“They could have closed it for us,” said sumwatkewt.
“They were too busy s******* themselves,” Issac replied.
There were 314.2 burglaries for every 100,000 residents in the United States in 2021, according to Statista. New Mexico had the highest rate of incidents, with 6.48.8 burglaries per 100,000 residents. New Hampshire has the lowest rate, with only 103.3 home robberies per 100,000 citizens.
Research by the US Department of Justice found that burglaries are most likely to happen in the summertime. Thirty-four percent of burglars get into a house via the front door, and houses without security systems are 300 times more likely to be robbed.
In a 2016 survey of convicted burglars in New York and New Jersey, several reported using social media to find targets and the best time to strike, with midnight to 4 am the top time to break in.
TikTok users couldn’t get enough of Loki’s heroic actions, with the video receiving over 150,000 likes and more than 1,700 shares.
“Loki is a good boy,” said Oracle. “He Even came back.”
“The way Loki pounces is so funny,” wrote Jade Rustandi.
“I’m crying,” commented Sam Mack. “Love how doggo waited quietly for his guest to fully arrive.”
Nicola Sewell said: “Loki understood the assignment.”
Although Loki may have his role down as a guard dog, other pups aren’t quite up to the challenge, with one fearsome-looking canine recently dubbed “the world’s worst guard dog.” While doing some DIY around the house, Tommy’s owner donned protective overalls and a face mask.
Unfortunately, Tommy didn’t recognize his owner and dashed through a window, to the internet’s amusement.
