Manchester United favorite emerges as frontrunner for Lincoln City job

Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has emerged as the surprise favorite to take the Lincoln City job.

The Imps have been on the search for a new manager after it was revealed at the end of the season that Michael Appleton was being relieved of his position. City finished 17th in the League One table, just 12 points above the relegation zone.

The club have ambitions of challenging for promotion in the future, just as they did in 2020/21 when they reached the play-offs. A Champions League-winning ex-player could be the man they decide to help them achieve that goal.

Carrick is currently the favorite to take over the role at Sincil Bank, with bookmaker Bet Victor currently offering odds of 1/1 for the Man United old boy to be in the dugout next season. He joined the backroom staff at Old Trafford after retiring from playing in 2018 and had a brief stint as caretaker boss earlier this season, winning two and drawing one of his three games in charge.

The former England international’s name has been thrown into the ring after Shamrock Rovers announced that Stephen Bradley would not be leaving the club to join City. It had been reported that a ‘formal approach’ had been made to secure the Irishman’s services, but he is now staying put, despite the fact you can still get odds of 14/1 on him becoming the next gaffer.

Former Liverpool and Wolves attacker Mark Kennedy is the second favorite to get the job with odds of 2/1. The ex-Republic of Ireland international is currently coaching at Birmingham City.
