Search for missing man Luke Woods who vanished after heading to popular Sunshine Coast beach

A major air, land and sea search is underway for a man who has not returned home after visiting a popular beach on the Sunshine Coast.

Police said 38-year-old Luke Woods went to Mudjimba Beach at lunchtime on Wednesday.

His car and belongings were found on the sand near access point 132 yesterday afternoon, about 24 hours after he was last seen.

Police Inspector Jon Lewis said that was when the alarm was raised.

He said loved ones searched the area but when they couldn’t find Mr Woods, they called police for help.

Inspector Lewis said the focus of the search would now also include more land areas.

“We’re looking at the land on both sides of the beach road — we’ve got to cover off on all of those.”

State Emergency Service (SES) crews, police and Surf Life Saving volunteers are searching the ocean and up to 600 meters north of where Mr Woods’s gear was found.

Police said he had a medical condition and his disappearance was out of character.

“It certainly adds to the concern for sure that it could contribute to his welfare,” Inspector Lewis said.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
